Job Details
Fred Thomas MP is looking for an experienced, motivated & compassionate team player to join his constituency team as a Caseworker to work 25hrs per week Mon-Fri from his local office in Plymouth Moor view with 2 days (Monday and Wednesday working at home)*
You’ll be part of a small caseworker team within the mutually supportive wider constituency team, and should have a high level of commitment to successful outcomes for constituents, and sympathy and understanding of the issues and opportunities facing residents of Plymouth Moor View.
*A five day working pattern is essential, although specific hours may be negotiated.
Key Responsibilities

Deal with large numbers of standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of the public by phone, email, social media or face to face, and provide timely ongoing communication

Gather relevant information to assist with resolving cases. Log all cases; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken

Ensure that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately in accordance with parliamentary and local policies and procedures

Draft high quality written responses to constituents

Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with current data protection legislation and GDPR

Attend constituency meetings, and participate in information sessions, local surgeries and other meetings – take minutes/notes if required and follow up actions as appropriate

Provide policy and campaign responses to constituents, making links between casework and policy developments in order to inform constituents of progress

Use MS Office to a high standard (most usually Word and Outlook) and develop skills in bespoke 'Caseworker' software to record and monitor own caseload

Perform general administration tasks in support of the Member and Office Manager, contributing to the smooth running of the office.

Perform any other reasonable duties as may be necessary from time to time

There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally.
Person Specification
Essential
-
Experience in a customer-facing role or IAG role (information, advice and guidance), including supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds
-
Experience in public service, casework or a related field, including working with individuals, communities and people facing disadvantage
-
Demonstrable knowledge of advice services in areas such as housing, benefits or education, and ability to further develop this knowledge

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a professional, empathetic and approachable manner and clear writing style
-
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
-
Ability to analyse complex information, identify key issues, find solutions and manage a varied caseload, with appropriate support where needed.

Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office, Teams, SharePoint, and willingness to learn new systems such as casework software

Ability to work collaboratively in a small, fast-paced, close-knit team
-
Ability to work sensitively with constituents, including those who may be distressed, while maintaining personal wellbeing and seeking support where appropriate

Willingness to undertake training and development to meet the casework needs of constituents
Desirable
-
Full driving licence and access to a vehicle

Experience using casework management software

Understanding of the role of an MP, local & central government, & the voluntary sector.

Relevant vocational qualifications for the role such as NVQ 3 Information Advice and Guidance, NVQ 3 in Customer Service or demonstrable equivalent experience.
Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO).
MPs pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines
Salary £21,000.00 per annum actual (Full Time Equivalent approx £31,000)
