About Fred
Fred Thomas is the Labour Member of Parliament for Plymouth Moor View, a former Royal Marines officer and a member of the House of Commons Defence Committee.
First elected in July 2024, Fred has focused his parliamentary work on defence and national security, emerging technologies, and bringing greater investment and opportunities to Plymouth.

His military experience continues to inform his work in Parliament, particularly his focus on ensuring Britain's Armed Forces have the equipment and capabilities needed to meet emerging threats.

Representing Plymouth Moor View
Fred’s priorities include improving NHS services, supporting local schools, addressing the cost of living and securing better transport and infrastructure for Plymouth.
Fred has worked with local businesses, universities, government and industry to support Plymouth's development as a centre for defence innovation and advanced manufacturing. He has also supported efforts to attract new defence technology businesses to Plymouth and create opportunities for young people to build skilled careers locally.
Fred continues to work with local residents, businesses, community groups and public services to raise issues affecting Plymouth Moor View and support the city's long-term future.
Defence Technology, Innovation & Investment
Much of Fred’s parliamentary work has focused on modernising UK defence, accelerating the adoption of new military technologies and strengthening Britain's domestic defence industry.
Fred has taken a particular interest in strengthening Britain's position in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, space and quantum technologies.
His work has also focused on the challenges facing innovative British businesses, particularly access to finance and the difficulties smaller companies can face. Fred has called for a stronger innovation and investment environment to help British companies scale without needing to relocate.
